最新車両で #イタリア から #スイス へ!RABe501"#Giruno "【 #迷列車で行こう海外編】現地突撃取材
Our extended journey through Italy has come to an end, and now, we venture northward to the mountainous realms of Switzerland. We are boarding the EuroCity, an international express train connecting Italy and Switzerland. Until now, the service often employed Italian-made tilting trains, the Pendolinos, which we had ridden several times. However, since 2020, a new fleet has been introduced: the "RABe 501" model, affectionately known as "Giruno." This Swiss-manufactured express train is a multifunctional marvel, designed with international service in mind, potentially extending into Germany and Austria. Historically, Switzerland has mostly operated trains of a more orthodox design and aesthetic. However, the Giruno represents a new generation, boasting innovative features rarely seen in recent models. Considering its direct routes to numerous countries, the Giruno is meticulously designed for barrier-free travel, offering ease for passengers with hefty luggage. Moreover, a close inspection of the train reveals intriguing design aspects. These adaptations accommodate the challenging Swiss terrain, characterized by steep gradients and sharp curves, while maintaining the capability for high-speed travel up to 250 km/h. Notably, the train features unique designs and concepts that allow it to smoothly navigate high-speed, curvy sections - a must-see for enthusiasts. As expected of a new model, the Giruno doesn't skimp on advanced interior features. One standout is the full-color LCD destination displays at the entrances, a pleasant surprise for first-time riders. Inside, you'll find numerous information displays, including indicators of car occupancy levels to guide passengers to less crowded spaces - a forward-thinking convenience not commonly seen in older models. Additionally, this train features an array of seating arrangements. Amidst the abundance of comfort-oriented seats for long journeys, there are also 'Business Zones' for computer work or meetings, and 'Silent Zones' for those desiring a quieter environment. There's more uniqueness to its structure; the Giruno, servicing international routes, has dual-level floors to accommodate various platform heights across different countries. This thoughtful feature enhances accessibility, particularly for wheelchair users boarding the train independently. And, of course, there's a dining car, allowing passengers to savor their meals against the backdrop of stunning Swiss vistas. Dining cars are a staple on the country's express services. There was a time when the Swiss Federal Railways considered downsizing the dining car service to accommodate more seats. However, faced with considerable passenger opposition, they opted to retain the dining cars - an interesting tidbit about the Swiss travel culture. Besides, we also delve into the general state of dining car services in Switzerland. So, join us on this fascinating journey through the technological advancements and passenger-focused services of the Giruno, and enjoy the breathtaking Swiss landscapes along the way!
