Climbing To The Island In The Sky // A Solo Ascent to Summit UN 5848

A couple years ago I did a quick video of a red ridge (Gordon's Ridge) just north of Sky Island. I then tried to summit UN 5848. Unfortunately, I was turned around that day. Little did I now I shouldn't have turned around. I was so close! So I'm back to finally bag this summit so I can move on. This route is amazing and the beauty every step of the way is almost hard to believe. Long Canyon is one of my all time favorites and the views looking down into the canyon are just epic. After our rains we received, the weather has been quit perfect. The low angle winter sun's soft blue light filled the crisp cool air, making it just warm enough to melt some left over ice. The emerald moss in the shadows was impossibly green and the red manzanita bark seemed to glow. The sky surrounding the island was a sea of electric blue. As blue as it could be. I had never been to sky island so this was a treat. The summits are calling so this is the first of many this winter.
