At the 2025 King of the Great Lakes event, Jeff from MACkiteboarding sat down with professional kiteboarder and Reedin co-founder Kevin Langeree to discuss the brand-new Reedin MasterModel kite. The conversation took place at the Reedin tent, where Kevin introduced this latest addition to the Reedin lineup—a five-strut kite designed specifically for effortless jumping and maximum height. Jeff and Kevin noted how the new model builds upon Reedin’s “Model” naming theme, following the popular SuperModel and HyperModel kites. The MasterModel, Kevin explained, bridges the gap between the easy-to-ride SuperModel and the high-performance HyperModel, offering riders a kite that is intuitive yet capable of record-breaking boosts. Kevin shared that the decision to develop a five-strut design was made possible by Brainchild Technology, a key innovation that dramatically reduces kite weight. Traditional five-strut kites can feel heavy and sluggish, but Brainchild’s fused construction eliminates excess stitching and ensures even power distribution across the leading edge. This advancement allowed Reedin to add the stability benefits of a five-strut frame without sacrificing the light, agile feel riders expect. According to Kevin, the MasterModel delivers “the easiest jumping experience ever”—a kite that lifts like an elevator even if the rider’s takeoff isn’t perfect. With smooth, confident steering and predictable control in the air, it’s meant to help riders set new personal bests on their Woo height trackers—hence Kevin’s running joke about “catching a cold up there.” Jeff and Kevin also discussed how the MasterModel maintains the familiar DNA of the SuperModel but enhances it with increased rigidity, improved hang time, and exceptional performance in gusty conditions. The five-strut frame helps the kite keep its shape under pressure, providing stability and a smoother ride in stronger winds. Kevin emphasized that the kite’s intuitive feel means even intermediate riders can handle it with confidence. Unlike the HyperModel, which demands precision and advanced technique, the MasterModel gives riders instant feedback and control from the first jump. It’s designed for anyone looking to push their limits and experience massive, floaty airtime without feeling overpowered or disoriented. When Jeff asked about size range and preferred setups, Kevin said the MasterModel will be available in sizes 6 through 12 meters, with his personal favorites being the 8m and 9m for optimal jumping speed and lift in 30-knot winds. He highlighted how collaboration with fellow designers Ralph and Damien helped fine-tune the bridle system for the perfect balance of stability and steering response, creating what he called “the ultimate five-strut kite.” The discussion wrapped up with Jeff noting that MACkiteboarding will soon have the MasterModel in stock for testing and demos, encouraging riders to experience the kite firsthand.
