Reedin MasterModel x Brazilian Brothers | 5-Strut, High Aspect, Big Air!

The Brazilian Brothers from MACkiteboarding deliver an enthusiastic first look at the brand-new Reedin MasterModel, the company’s first entry into the five-strut, high-aspect big-air category. Filming in ideal conditions—blue skies, steady 25-knot easterlies, and a perfect tide—they unpack an 8-meter version of the kite and immediately note its striking purple–turquoise colorway and refined silhouette. Designed by industry veterans Ralf Groesel and Damien Girardin, with additional input from kite legend Kevin Langaree, the MasterModel benefits from Brainchild’s Pro Weld Technology, an ultrasonic panel-welding process that produces a thinner, lighter leading edge. At just over 2.45 kilograms, the 8m is exceptionally light, to the point that it must be weighted down with sand at the beach so it won’t blow away. Before launching the kite, the Brothers remove the Y-splitter from the Harlem bar to convert it to a low-V setup, as Reedin kites are intended to be flown with a low V. Once airborne, the MasterModel impresses immediately with its very light bar feel, crisp steering, and surprising speed, despite traditional skepticism around five-strut, high-aspect designs—often criticized for sluggish turning and subpar loop performance—the kite feels direct and responsive right from the first tacks. On the water, the initial session confirms their early impressions. The kite is quick, smooth through loops, and offers strong potential for height and hang time even in moderate wind. After the first round of testing, one of the Brothers switches back to a high-V configuration and finds that the MasterModel actually performs better this way. The bar becomes even lighter, the turning becomes faster, and the catch after loops improves. This dual-setup comparison reveals that the MasterModel handles both V configurations well, but gains noticeable sharpness and agility on the high V. Across both tests, the Brothers repeatedly express their surprise at how agile the kite is for a five-strut platform. It loops easily, catches smoothly, and delivers a confidence-inspiring feel that defies the expectations normally associated with high-aspect big-air kites. Their early jumps in 25 knots were already impressive, leaving them eager to try it in stronger wind to push height and performance further. By the end of their first impression session, the Brazilian Brothers are deeply impressed with the MasterModel’s speed, responsiveness, loop quality, and jumping potential.
