World War II ended 40 years after the inglorious Russo-Japanese War of 1904-1905 for the Russian Empire. In Tehran and Potsdam, the Soviet side confirmed its readiness to join the military operations in the Far East. While the Allies of the Anti-Hitler Coalition presented the Imperial Government of Tokyo with an ultimatum to surrender, the response to which was a call for nationwide resistance, fraught with a long and bloody war for the islands.
