A Tour of the Life Extended Comeng Train - Metro Trains Melbourne
In this video we take a tour of the Life Extended Comeng Train. The Comeng fleet is the oldest type of train used by Metro Trains Melbourne; with 570 carriages entering service between 1981 - 1989. The fleet was initially refurbished by Alstom and EDI Rail between 2000 - 2003. In 2017 Metro Trains Melbourne and the Victorian Government began a $75 million life extension program to keep the Comeng fleet running reliably for at least another decade until they're ready for retirement. One six-car set underwent modifications as a prototype in late 2017 before being progressively rolled out for the rest of the fleet. The program is being completed in three stages with external, internal, mechanical and safety upgrades being undertaken on the fleet.
