Mulberrys were artificial harbours that were towed from the south of England on arrival off the coast of Normandy, they were flooded and sunk to provide an artificial pier to allow the allies to rapidly unload materials and men for the break out into northern France! 80 years on, the remains of a lot of these artificial harbours are still visible ... standing at Cap Manvieux and looking out at the Mulberrys is one of the most breathtaking experiences in Normandy.
