#119 - Praxismentoring mit Sebastian Lisowski

In this episode, I speak with Sebastian Lisowski about a topic that is often crucial in everyday educational practice, yet receives far too little attention: practical instruction and mentoring in daycare centers. Sebastian is a state-certified early childhood educator, childhood education specialist, consultant, trainer, and author. With over 17 years of professional experience, he brings not only a wealth of expertise but also very personal experiences from his own training. We discuss this openly: moments when support is empowering, but also situations where trainees feel alone, devalued, or overwhelmed. This topic is very important to me because training in daycare centers cannot simply be done "on the side." If we want people to stay in this profession, they need spaces where they feel safe, are allowed to learn, are taken seriously, and can grow. This is precisely where Sebastian's approach comes in: moving away from traditional, judgmental instruction and toward peer-to-peer mentoring. We discuss why many aspiring professionals drop out of the system early on, what they need instead, what successful onboarding looks like, and what kind of attitude mentors should truly possess. At the same time, we also look at the difficult side: How do we deal with it when someone might not be suited to the profession? And how do we recognize that? An episode about relationships, responsibility, protection, reflection, and the question of how training in early childhood education can be made more humane, professional, and sustainable. *What you can expect in this episode:* Why relationship should take precedence over evaluation in practical mentoring Why many trainees don't feel truly supported in the daycare system What hurt and shaped Sebastian during his own training Why good mentoring is more than just technical guidance What role self-reflection plays in supporting aspiring professionals What onboarding in daycare can actually look like Why trainees shouldn't simply "tag along" as fully qualified professionals What motivation in mentoring really means How we can recognize whether someone needs support or is truly unsuitable for the profession What trainees can do if the collaboration with their practical mentor isn't working *More about Sebastian:* Website: [https://paedagogikguru.de/](https://paedagogikguru.de/) Instagram: [@paedagogikguru](  / paedagogikguru  ) Podcast: [The Daycare Compass - Podcast](https://der-kita-kompass.podigee.io/) Book "Mentor Me": https://www.betrifftkindershop.de/epa...) *_More from the Bo Academy:_* The comprehensive BoP online course: https://www.bo-paedagogik.de/der-bop-...
