A Week of Smoke, Jasmine & Small Joys

As I write this, the warehouse fire that filled the Los Angeles sky with smoke for more than a week has finally been extinguished. Thankfully, no one was hurt. The last few years have brought so many unsettling moments that perhaps we've all become a little more resilient. We carry on because, ultimately, we have to. Against a backdrop of smoky skies, something unexpected happened at home. The jasmine growing outside the front door decided to bloom for a second time this year. It has never done that before. I clipped a few stems and brought them inside. They may be covered with fine particulates from the fire but they do a great job brightening the table and scenting the room with a sweet, fruity floralcy. Join me in this video as I: • Give instructions on how to make the perfect open faced tuna melt • Allow Sookie to show off and observe the world upside down • Browse the summer sales around Los Angeles • Discover L'Eau Bleue by Miu Miu • Revisit the work of perfumer Daniela Roche Andrier through fragrances from Prada and Etat Libre d'Orange • Search Bloomingdale's for overlooked designer perfumes • Wear Chi by Mallo, a beautifully made, thought-provoking scent that features sweet plant resins, spices and woods Perhaps the biggest challenge of the week for me had nothing to do with the fire. My friend Emma Vernon invited me to help open a perfume-themed comedy dating show at Dynasty Typewriter. Despite having absolutely no experience attempting to be funny on stage, I somehow agreed. I was convinced I'd be painfully awkward. Fortunately, I somehow got into a flow once the curtains opened and I even heard a few laughs from the audience (thanks entirely to Emma doing the heavy lifting). Afterward, Brennan and I met friends at The Prince in Koreatown, a restaurant steeped in atmosphere and retro vibes. What challenges have you faced recently, big or small? I'd love to hear what's been happening in your world. Thank you, as always, for being here. #CreativeLife #LosAngelesLife #EverydayBeauty #SummerInLA #PerfumeCommunity
