Aerial tour of Hikarigaoka (Grant Heights)
Produced by Nerima Ward, Tokyo municipal government in 1991. Hikarigaoka ("New Town") and Hikarigaoka-koen are located in the northwest Tokyo suburb of Nerima-ku on what was formerly Grant Heights Dependent Housing Area, a U.S. military installation that opened in September 1947 (to residents in 1948). Grant Heights closed in August 1973 and reverted back to Japan. After several years, the sprawling complex was razed to make way for redevelopment. Editing and caption translation by Tom Barry.
