This is How to Get Open in Soccer - The Positioning Fix That Earns You the Ball

If you feel OPEN but the ball never finds your feet, the problem isn't your speed - it's where you're positioned relative to the defense. In this session, we're working through two passing combination patterns with D1 player Ivy - focused on how better supporting angles and smarter positioning earn you the ball more often. 0:00 - Why you're open but still not getting the ball 0:53 - The touch that carries you into space (without an extra dribble) 2:32 - Why your hip position is sending the ball the wrong way 3:03 - How to keep the ball on the floor when receiving at pace 4:59 - The run that clears the space you want to attack 5:57 - Attack the ball with pace with a heavy first touch 7:48 - The timing key that makes your first touch on the run easier In This Video You'll Discover: Positioning Off the Defender: Where you're positioned relative to the defender determines whether the ball can reach you. The right angle opens the pass - too tight and you're blocked. Directional Touch: Open your hips before the ball arrives and move WITH your touch. The better the touch, the more ground you cover in one movement. The False Run: Bring the defender away from the space you want to attack, then circle back. Drop straight back out and she follows - and the space disappears with her. First Touch on the Run: Stay patient and hold your run until the ball is played. Going early forces a difficult touch - staying deeper gives you room to adjust and attack the ball with pace. Competing at the top level of collegiate soccer taught Coach Stevi Parker that the players who always seem to get the ball aren't faster — they're positioned smarter. This session drills the two-pattern combination that teaches you to read the defender, create the right angles, and earn the ball more often.
