Odonga Otto in Tears: "Where Is Miria Matembe?"

The disappearance of former Ethics Minister and veteran activist Dr. Miria Matembe has sparked growing outrage, with former Aruu County MP Odonga Otto publicly demanding answers. In an emotional outburst, Otto asked: "What kind of life is this in Uganda? Where is Miria Matembe?" His remarks come after security operatives raided Matembe's Luzira home following her criticism of CDF Muhoozi Kainerugaba. Since then, her whereabouts have remained unknown, fueling concern among family, friends, and supporters. For Otto, this is about more than one individual—it is about the direction of the country. His emotional plea reflects the fear, anger, and unanswered questions surrounding one of Uganda's most talked-about disappearances. In this commentary, I examine Otto's appeal, the growing concern over Miria Matembe's whereabouts, and why the case has intensified the debate over freedom, accountability, and the treatment of government critics.
