Morning Devotional for Teens | Friday, July 17, 2026 =================== Deceptive Success “Why do the wicked live on, growing old and ever richer? They spend their lives in abundance… Yet they said to God, ‘Leave us alone! We do not want to know your ways.’” — Job 21:7, 13-14 (NIV) Looking at the final grades on the school bulletin board can send a punch of frustration down your spine. You’ve tried your best in the classroom, spent countless nights studying at home, observed the Sabbath, and acted with complete honesty. Yet the top honors go to a classmate who constantly cheats on tests, uses vulgar language with friends, and mocks your Christian principles. It seems that those who ignore the commandments are faring much better, while faithfulness only brings trials and sacrifices. This same paradox is what the patriarch addresses in the twenty-first chapter of Job. Tired of the mechanical pronouncements of his comforters, who insisted that suffering is always divine punishment, Job asks them to listen to him attentively. With complete candor, he exposes an uncomfortable reality: often the wicked prosper, grow old surrounded by luxury, see their families grow, and enjoy parties without suffering immediate consequences. They spend their days in abundance and even reject the Creator, saying they have no interest in knowing His laws. Job demonstrates that material success in this world is fleeting and does not reflect divine approval. In our daily lives, it is very common to encounter this apparent victory of error. Our screens show us profiles of young people who live without moral restraint, accumulating thousands of reactions, applause, and ephemeral popularity in their social circles. The adversary actively works to cloud your perception of the future. The enemy tries to convince you that heeding your parents' wise counsel or participating in church activities is a waste of time, tempting you to silence your hymns of faith and imitate the questionable behaviors of those around you. Ellen G. White dismantles the lie of the ungodly triumphing in The Great Controversy, page 502, reminding us of the story's outcome: "Men may disregard the warnings of divine grace and scoff at its commands; but the day of retribution is infallibly approaching... The prosperity of the wicked is brief and deceptive, while the reward of those who remain upright and sustain their faith in the midst of trials is an eternal inheritance of salvation that will never fade." The Creator doesn't measure your success by the approval of school halls or the number of followers on a social network; He evaluates the faithfulness of your character for eternity. Your true worth was sealed by the blood of Christ Jesus on the cross. When the day begins with pressures and doubts, seek time for quiet prayer, sing hymns that strengthen your soul, and participate in the challenges of youth volunteering, the community projects of Project Caleb, or Sabbath School gatherings. By keeping your eyes fixed on Jesus, you understand that the advantages of the world are but a fleeting glimpse.
