I entered the Mesopotamian Marshes to tell you a story that takes us back to the cradle of civilization and overturns everything we thought we knew about this land. Here live the Ma'dan, the "Marsh Arabs," a community that for millennia has lived in perfect symbiosis with the water, building incredible floating islands and woven reed cathedrals, perpetuating a lifestyle that dates back to the times of the Sumerians, far from the frenzy of the modern world. For this new chapter of Human Sides, I wanted to sail along their canals and look them in the eye. I tried to understand what it means to live in a disappearing paradise, to fight every day to preserve a thousand-year-old tradition, and to watch loved ones leave, forced to emigrate to the cities in search of a future. This is a journey into the resilience of a people and their land. A new, incredible human side.
