On the banks of the Tigris, in Baghdad, lies one of the world's oldest religious communities, older even than Christianity: the Sabaean-Mandaeans 🇮🇶 There's barely a trace of them in history books, and as the years pass, this centuries-old community is slowly disappearing. They constantly practice baptism, immersing themselves and drinking the river waters, seeking purity and the light. Thousands of years of history flow alongside those same waters, but today their future is uncertain. Wars, persecution, and forced migrations have drastically reduced their numbers, putting the survival of an entire culture at risk. Who are the Sabaean-Mandaeans, really?
