In 1575, Queen Elizabeth I famously spent 19 days at Kenilworth Castle, being entertained by the eager Robert Dudley, Earl of Leicester. The Earl was keen to cement himself as the primary candidate for marriage, and whilst his advances may have been unsuccessful, Kenilworth Castle stands testament to the effort he placed in trying to win the Queens hand. Lavish bedrooms, panoramic views from dominating towers, and a private lake made the visit one of great comfort. Today, the ruins stand proudly, with multiple levels and buildings to explore.
