EEUU llama a combatir el “terrorismo de extrema izquierda”

Secretary of State Marco Rubio convened representatives from 66 European, Asian, and American countries at a summit at the State Department headquarters last Thursday to address what the Trump administration perceives as a surge in far-left political terrorism worldwide. “They may call themselves anti-capitalists, anti-imperialists, communists, anarchists, or Marxists, but their essential nature is always the same. It is always the same. It is a poisonous resentment disguised in the language of equality, justice, and liberation, coupled with an overwhelming need to destroy what greater men have built, to ruin what is beautiful and right in the name of people who are only full of ugliness and have nothing else to offer the world,” Rubio said in his opening remarks at a meeting that has been unofficially dubbed the “Antifa Summit.” He added, “It is a real and transnational threat that has existed for decades, but is now experiencing a resurgence.” Rubio cited as examples the Revolutionary Organization of November 17, active in Greece since the 1970s, the US groups Weather Underground and the Black Liberation Army, the Tupamaros of Uruguay, the Montoneros of Argentina, Shining Path of Peru, and the Italian Red Brigades. “Today we face a new wave of this old evil,” the US Secretary of State insisted. The US government’s rhetoric against the left continued yesterday when the State Department released a report titled “Cuba: The Capital of 21st-Century Communism.” In that report, Washington states that “for nearly seven decades, the Cuban regime has waged a sustained campaign of subversion against the United States,” and that in doing so, it “has managed to infiltrate the highest levels of the U.S. government, recruit and cultivate generations of American activists, support an unprecedented wave of left-wing terrorism on U.S. soil, and carry out one of the longest-running and most damaging foreign intelligence penetration operations in U.S. history.” The report details a long list of accusations against U.S. organizations still active and linked to the island, such as the National Network on Cuba (NNOC).
