A Millionaire’s Showplace to an Abandoned Farm – Schermerhorn Farms, Mahnomen Minnesota
With a millionaire’s backing, five beautifully landscaped farms (The Ranch, Oak Crest, St. Pierre, Waubun Hills, and The Terminal) were created in Mahnomen County, Minnesota around 1917. James B. Schermerhorn hired hundreds of local men and women to run and maintain these farms. However, with his death in 1929, at the age of 60, the farms and everything on them were sold. Very few pieces of these beautiful farms are left today. Come along as I share what I’ve learned about these fascinating pieces of history.
