Kettle River Quarries – Sandstone Minnesota
The perfect time to visit a famous Minnesota rock quarry is during the fall, when the leaves are changing colors. The Kettle River Quarries were established in 1885, by Colonel William Henry Grant. The development of the quarries led to the establishment of the town of Sandstone, Minnesota. Learn more about the railroad history of the area, the town, and the quarries, and see beautiful views of the light tan sandstone during the fall color change. Despite the passage of 140 years, you can still find buildings in town and in the quarry composed of the extremely durable material.
