How does a judge form their conviction about the facts presented in a trial? The next edition of the Academia program presents research investigating how evidence is produced and evaluated in the Judiciary and discusses whether judicial decisions are influenced solely by the rules of law or also by factors related to human behavior. The thesis is by Ricardo Rocha Leite, Master and Doctor of Law, who is also a judge of the Court of Justice of the Federal District and Territories. The study brings together knowledge from Psychology, Neuroscience, and Behavioral Economics to broaden the understanding of judicial decision-making. By advocating an interdisciplinary approach to evidentiary law, the research proposes a dialogue between legal knowledge and other areas of science to improve the analysis of facts and evidence. The goal is to contribute to more well-founded decisions, reduce the possibility of judicial errors, and strengthen the quality of judicial services in all areas of law.
