"And there was evening and there was morning, the fifth day." — Genesis 1:20-23. If you look at the first five days of creation as a whole, something stands out. THE FIRST FOUR DAYS GOD FILLED NOTHING. He separated light from darkness. He separated the waters. He made dry land appear. He set up the lights. Four days of preparing spaces. And none of those spaces had life yet. Only on the fifth day does God begin to fill them. And that says something about God's rhythm that is profoundly liberating. GOD DOES NOT FILL BEFORE PREPARING. First, He prepares the space. First, He establishes order. First, He creates the conditions. And when the space is ready, He fills it. Not before. And the first thing He does when He fills the spaces is not just create. He blesses. "Be fruitful and multiply." The first word of God addressed directly to His creatures in the entire history of creation is not a command or a restriction. IT IS A BLESSING. Be fruitful. Multiply. Fill. God creates and immediately declares abundance over what He created.
