Railfanning around Altoona, Pennsylvania! Featuring Cresson Park, Norfolk Southern & Amtrak

Recorded August 2025. For my college graduation, my Dad, Big Butt Bear and I ventured five hours out to railfan the world famous Horseshoe Curve! Unfortunately we ran into a big problem upon arrival. It was closed! What kind of National Historic Site closes for TWO consecutive days per week?! Never heard of such a thing until this happened! And the website is pretty bad too because the website says check Facebook and Google which should not be the first places you check when conducting research. Why can't park management use their own website?! Anyway, enough complaining. We did NOT let this major setback ruin the entire trip! Thankfully, we marked down other railfanning locations along the Norfolk Southern Pittsburgh Line to railfan at where all of the same action would continue to pass through like it would at the Horseshoe Curve. There were still a TON of freight trains to see which is what we came out to see! We even see the Amtrak Pennsylvanian while we were out in Central Pennsylvania. We started off in downtown Altoona and then finished up railfanning at the adorable Cresson Railroad Park. It was still a fantastic trip and we saw a lot more freight trains than we would back at home. We didn't need the Horseshoe Curve at that point lol!
