L K Advani speaks about partition
L K Advani talks about the framing of Indian Constitution and partition after independence, he said, When the Indian Constitution was framed the word was used very often in the course of the debates but I regarded as significant that the word doesn't occur anywhere in the Constitution as originally framed and finalized in 1950 the word has been introduced into the preamble only in 1976 during the emergency. The only relevant interpretation of secularism in the Indian context could be in the background in which India got independence namely the country was divided into two on the basis of areas which had a Muslim majority forming part of Pakistan and both having Hindu Majority forming part of India. The country was divided on the basis of Hindu and Muslim, Pakistan declared itself an islamic state which meant a theocratic state which meant that for all practical purposes Muslims and Pakistan would be deemed as class one citizens and Non - Muslims as class two citizens, now this is the concept which I believe is alien to Indian traditional polity and when India decided to go secular it meant, firstly that the state would not be a theocratic state, secondly that the state would hold the balance even between citizens irrespective of their faith there shall be no class one citizens and class two citizens all shall be equal in the eyes of law.
