Reading & Northern F-Units, Budd Cars and Freight Trains on a Lovely Fall Day

Sunday October 19th, 2025, was not only a beautiful fall day, but it was also an eventful day to railfan the Reading and Northern Railroad, with plenty of activity on the Reading side of the system. Complete with a Budd RDC excursion from Pottsville and an Outer Station excursion with the F-Units both enroute to Jim Thorpe, along with a couple of freight trains to catch as well, it was an eventful outing from start to finish. We'd start out between Port Clinton and Tamaqua with R&N PVJT, which featured RDC-3 9166 and RDC-1 9168, the 9168 sporting its new Reading Company-inspired look. After chasing the Budds to Lake Hauto, we'd hang out a while until the Outer Station excursion, OSJT arrived with the F Units and an SD50-2 leading the way. With a few hours to kill, we'd hit the road and look for the Sunday Shenandoah job, QASD. We'd catch them passing through a beautiful tree tunnel of peak fall foliage on the M&S Branch and again as they rolled up to Lehigh Anthracite on the Greenwood Running Track with a pair of SD40-2s and a cut of hoppers. Lastly, we'd chase JTOS making its way back to Reading from Jim Thorpe with the F Units, capping off our day with them departing Port Clinton and catching the GSPN "Good Springer" finishing their work up and calling it a day.
