O raro casarão que desafia o boom de prédios no Porto da Barra

In Porto da Barra, an orange house intrigues passersby. It's the last exclusively residential mansion, inhabited by the same family since the 1960s. It's home to an ornamental fish merchant who's resisting his lifestyle and housing in one of Salvador's main tourist attractions. Surrounded by bars and an ever-growing number of buildings, Bernardo Linhares has watched his neighbors leave, but every day he gives a different purpose to the house that tells a part of Salvador's history. "It's an oasis," says the resident, optimistic amid the challenges of staying, such as verticalization, violence, and constant noise. Curious passersby are often invited by the host for a visit, a sort of home tour. "I've made many friends because of this. If you ask me, can you come in? You can. Because beauty matters," she says. In this video, Bernardo shares his daily life, as he welcomes friends and the next generations of his family, in his mission to freshen up the house for the future.
