[4K] 🇪🇸 Bilbao Metro & Tram | All the Lines

The Metro in Bilbao is the smallest in Spain operating only 3 lines over 39 kilometers of track. Lines 1 and 2 are operated by the municipal transit authority and line 3 is operated Euskotren, the regional rail company. The tram is also operated by Euskotren and spans 20 kilometers. The system is relatively new having opened in 1995 and unlike other systems in Spain is heavily interlined. Lines 1 and 2 share a significant portion of track around the city proper and line 3 shares its entire length with the busiest portion of Euskotren’s network. The metro isn’t at all limited to the city limits extending well outside of the city’s main fare zone. Fares are integrated with the rest of the city’s transport network including the bus, tram, and all regional rail services which are also offered by renfe. I recommend the system to anyone visiting or living in the city since it’s not very expensive and pretty fast. The tram also passes through a lot of very beautiful areas in the Basque capital.
