Solo Hiking on Hadrians Wall in the Heat of Summer

I hiked the Hadrian's Wall Path National Trail completely solo with very little planning, setting off from Bowness-on-Solway on the west coast of England and walking all the way to Newcastle, following the trail west to east. No detailed itinerary. No months of preparation. Just a backpack, a willingness to embrace the unknown, and a sense of adventure. What I didn't expect was just how challenging this journey would become. I battled a 29°C (84°F) heatwave, got caught in unexpected rain, and finished the trail by walking through some sketchy parts of Newcastle that made for a tense end to an unforgettable adventure. From blazing sunshine to soaking wet trails, every day brought something new. In this series, you'll see the reality of solo backpacking across one of England's most historic long-distance trails—the highs, the lows, changing weather, stunning countryside, Roman history, unexpected challenges, and the small moments that make these journeys unforgettable. Whether you're planning to hike Hadrian's Wall Path yourself or simply enjoy hiking adventures, I hope this video inspires you to get outside and start your own adventure—even if you don't have everything figured out.
