That's the topic of today's video in the "Balconies and Terraces" series. Enjoy! Vista Supertunias have been conquering balconies, terraces, and gardens for several seasons now. It's no wonder, they grow rapidly, form huge flower balls, and bloom until frost. What's more, they are easier to grow than classic surfinias, more resistant to pests and weather. Anyone who loves petunias and dreams of a spectacular display at the beginning of summer will certainly appreciate Supertunias. So today we're revisiting them with a reminder of how to plant them and how to care for them, especially at the beginning of the growing season, to quickly achieve this effect. First, remember that Supertunias love the sun. The more they have, the more abundantly they will bloom. Six hours of full sun a day is a minimum for them. Therefore, we must ensure the right location for these plants to meet this requirement. They will also thrive in partial shade, but flowering may be limited. Secondly, when planting supertunias, it's worth ensuring a relatively large container. These plants will also grow in standard balcony boxes or traditional hanging containers, but the larger the pot, the easier their cultivation will be. These plants grow very quickly, both for their flowering, spectacular shoots that we admire, and for their root system. Providing supertunias have plenty of soil will allow them to grow freely, with access to more nutrients and moisture. The smaller the pot, the more frequently they should be watered and fertilized. It's worth remembering that they can be repotted at any stage of the growing season, even when they are quite large. The soil for supertunias should be fertile, light, and well-drained. This can be a ready-to-use balcony mix, a flowering plant mix, or a general-purpose potting mix. Almost every season brings new varieties and new colors of Vista supertunias. Among the classic, well-known varieties, we can choose from 'Bubblegum', with its wonderfully variegated pink flowers. This is where the trend for these plants began. Subsequent varieties include 'Jazzberry' with purple flowers and 'Paradise' with red-pink flowers, as well as 'Silverberry' with pink-white flowers and 'Snowdrift' with snow-white flowers with greenish veining. Recently, the varieties 'Raspberry Star' with white-pink flowers, variegated in a star shape, and 'Strawberry' with intense red flowers in a rather dark shade have also appeared. And this year's new varieties are 'Cool Jazz' with flowers in a more delicate, cooler pink color, and 'Fuchsia' with flowers in an intense fuchsia color. In a new pot, plant Supertunias at the same depth they were previously growing in their production pot. Containers for these plants must always have drainage holes at the bottom to allow excess water to drain freely. If the roots are allowed to stand in water for long periods, they can begin to rot and the plants will wither. It's also important to remember that supertunias will spread and overhang over time. When choosing a pot or a location, it's important to provide these plants with enough space to thrive. You can plant just one variety of supertunia in each pot, or combine different varieties. They are generally not planted in compositions with other plants, as it's difficult to find a species that matches the growth vigour of supertunias. These plants are so vigorous that they look best planted alone or in a colorful, single-species group. Because they spread so beautifully, they can also be used in flower beds as groundcovers. A single Supertunia seedling can grow to a diameter of over half a meter, sometimes reaching as much as 70-80 cm. This should be taken into account when arranging the seedlings in the flowerbed. Due to its high resistance to weather conditions, this is the best petunia for ground planting. Just remember, whether growing it in the garden or in balcony or patio pots, to water and fertilize regularly. Vigorously growing Supertunia vistas are true gluttons and thrive best when fed frequently. This is crucial if you want to quickly achieve cascades of flowers after planting.
