Moses is eighty years old. He has spent forty years in the desert, tending other people's sheep. Not as a king. Not as a prophet. Not as a leader. As the shepherd of his father-in-law's sheep. Forty years. And probably in those forty years, there were moments when he believed that his story with something great had ended. That the desert was the end. And then. A BUSH THAT BURNS WITHOUT BEING CONSUMED. —It wasn't a vision that struck him down. It wasn't a voice that called him before he approached. It wasn't an angel that descended from heaven. It was a burning bush. And Moses noticed it. And he went to see. And it was when Moses approached that God called him. Moses, Moses. —ENCOUNTERING GOD DOESN'T ALWAYS HAPPEN WHEN YOU'RE SEEKING HIM WITH SPIRITUAL INTENSITY. Sometimes it comes when you're doing something completely ordinary and you stop to notice something that doesn't quite fit. —And the Gospel connects perfectly. The treasure hidden in the field. The man wasn't looking for the treasure. He was in the field. Working. And he found it. And the pearl of great price. The merchant was looking. It was his trade. And they both found. —TREASURE APPEARS BOTH WHEN YOU DELIBERATELY SEEK IT AND WHEN YOU DON'T SEEK IT. And in both cases, the response was the same. He sells everything. Not with anguish. Not with doubt. Not calculating whether it's worth it. FULL OF JOY. Because what he found made everything he left behind seem small in comparison. ⸻THIRST FOR LIGHT is daily awareness training.
