Artificial Intelligence forces us to look into an ancient mystery: what is consciousness, really? In a world where machines seem to speak, understand, and even create, Riccardo Manzotti invites us to question the idea that only humans can think or be conscious. Through philosophy, neuroscience, and radical provocations, the talk explores the connection between creativity and freedom, showing how perhaps we are not what we think... but what we choose to be. What if consciousness were not within us, but in our living relationship with the world? Riccardo Manzotti is a professor of theoretical philosophy at IULM University; an electronics engineer, philosopher, and PhD in Robotics, he was a Fulbright Visiting Scholar at MIT in Boston. His research, always focused on the nature of consciousness and experience, has moved into the fields of artificial intelligence, philosophy of mind, and consciousness. His interdisciplinary background—from philosophy to engineering, with a strong interest in neuroscience, psychology, and cognitive science—has allowed him to address with originality some of the fundamental questions about subjective experience and the relationship between mind and reality. Manzotti is the author of the theory of Mind-Object Identity (MOI), a radical proposal that challenges traditional mind-body dualism, arguing that consciousness is not a phenomenon internal to the brain, but is literally identical to the objects of the external world with which our body is the condition of existence.
