The Marin Bobcat Trail 4 was upgraded in 2022 to be an even more compelling option in the Budget Oriented Hardtail Mountain Bike Category. For 2022, the Bobcat Trail 4 moved to a Microshift Advent 1x9 Drivetrain which is becoming a very trusted groupset. Its 11/46 cassette gives a broad enough range to be a practical replacement for the previous year's 2x9 drivetrain while offering better shifting and enhanced simplicity. 2 Standouts on this bike, compared to almost all other offerings (like the similarly spec'd Specialized Rockhopper Comp, Trek Marlin 6, Giant Talon 1) are the more modern (slacker head angle/steeper seat angle) geometry and 120mm travel fork (those other options with their 100mm travel forks are more like fat tired hybrids than actual mountain bikes.
