Caso Berenice: ex-patroa continua presa e polícia intensifica buscas por pistas

Berenice, a 60-year-old cook, has been missing since the end of June in Ubatuba, on the coast of São Paulo. The main suspect in the case is her former employer, Eliane Alves dos Santos. During a recent custody hearing, Eliane was informed that she will remain in temporary detention while the investigations continue. The inquiry conducted by the São Sebastião Civil Police revealed contradictions in Eliane's version of events leading to the cook's disappearance. Highway cameras recorded the suspect's pickup truck heading towards Rio de Janeiro shortly after the last contact between Berenice's children and her. The vehicle was seized and will undergo forensic examination. In addition, three weapons were found at the suspect's residence and will also be analyzed. Authorities believe that during the trip to Rio de Janeiro and later to the Taubaté metropolitan area of ​​São Paulo, where she is suspected of trying to destroy evidence inside the car, something may have occurred involving a possible crime against Berenice. A task force comprised of local police and state forces is searching for clues in locations such as Paraty and Angra dos Reis to locate the victim or additional evidence about their whereabouts. Specialized equipment will be used in the coming days to identify possible bloodstains in the seized vehicle.
