Building Huddersfield’s New Fast Lines (Transpennine Route Upgrade)
The transformation of Huddersfield Station continues as another important milestone is reached on the Transpennine Route Upgrade (TRU). This update follows the latest progress across Huddersfield, where construction continues on the new subway extension, Platforms 5 & 6 and the future station concourse. With the structural roof of the subway beginning to emerge, the project is steadily moving from heavy civil engineering towards the construction of the railway itself. The journey then moves to Sheffield Wednesday, where a GBRf engineering train has arrived carrying engineering fill for the future fast lines. Geotextile membrane, drainage infrastructure and earthworks continue to reshape the railway corridor as preparations advance for the next phase of track construction. Finally, the documentary visits Hillhouse Sidings, where the purpose of this new railway facility is explored, along with its future role in supporting stopping services once the upgraded railway enters service. As the Transpennine Route Upgrade progresses, the future railway is becoming easier to recognise, with every visit revealing another piece of one of Britain’s largest railway infrastructure projects. If you enjoy railway engineering, infrastructure documentaries and following the progress of the Transpennine Route Upgrade, consider subscribing for regular updates from across the route.
