Zero Point: The Most Dangerous Dead End in North Sikkim. Day 5 of BLR to Sikkim Road Trip
The road literally ends here. Welcome to Day 5 of our epic Bangalore to Sikkim road trip. We’ve driven over 2,500 kilometers from the flat highways of South India to get to this exact moment: Zero Point (Yumesamdong). Sitting at a brutal, oxygen-deprived altitude of 15,300 feet, this is the absolute final frontier in North Sikkim where civilian vehicles are legally allowed before the international border. This isn't just a scenic drive—it’s easily the most beautiful, volatile, and dangerous dead end we’ve ever faced. In this episode, we wake up at the crack of dawn in freezing Lachen to brave the treacherous terrain. Watch as we navigate through sheer cliff drop-offs, unpredictable black ice, and volatile Himalayan weather that can change from clear skies to a blinding blizzard in a matter of minutes. Beyond the physical toll on our vehicle, the rapidly dropping oxygen levels hit us hard, giving us a firsthand lesson in managing Acute Mountain Sickness (AMS). If you’ve ever dreamed of driving to the edge of India, this raw, unfiltered look at North Sikkim’s wildest terrain will show you exactly what it takes to survive and conquer the altitude. 🔔 Hit SUBSCRIBE and turn on notifications to follow our journey as we push deeper into Northeast India! -------------------------------------------------------- 🛠️ ESSENTIAL TRAVEL GUIDE FOR ZERO POINT: 1. PERMITS: You cannot visit Zero Point without a Protected Area Permit (PAP). We got ours sorted in Mangan/Gangtok a day prior through our local coordinator. 2. VEHICLE: High ground clearance is highly recommended. The roads past Thangu Valley are unforgiving and can easily damage a low sedan. 3. HEALTH: Carry portable oxygen cans, stay hydrated, and do NOT overexert yourself at the top. The lack of oxygen at 16k feet is no joke. -------------------------------------------------------- 🎥 MY GEAR & CAMERA SETUP: • Main Cinematic Camera: iPhone 16 Pro Max • Action Cam (Dash/Vlog): iPhone 16 Pro Max 💬 COMMUNITY QUESTION: Have you ever driven in high-altitude conditions before, or does the thought of thin air and black ice terrify you?
