[GERMANY] – Heavy Rain + Thunderstorms + Lightning Strikes | Severe storms sweep across Germany: Heavy rain causes flooding in Flensburg, public bus gets stuck in floodwater – around 150 fire departments in Hamburg after heavy rain, cars in floodwaters, houses flooded – stationary thunderstorm cell causes flooding and lightning strikes in the Karlsruhe district Heavy rain flooded parts of the city of Flensburg on Thursday afternoon. The northern part of Flensburg was particularly hard hit, where massive amounts of rain fell within a short period of time. The sewer system was unable to cope with the load. The Flensburg Fire Department has been in constant operation since the afternoon. Numerous basements and buildings were flooded, and emergency personnel are working at several locations in the city to pump out water and contain property damage. Near the Nordermarkt, a public bus, along with its passengers, got stuck in the water. The bus could not continue its journey and had to be secured by emergency personnel. On Thursday evening around 7 p.m., a stationary thunderstorm swept across the Karlsruhe district, causing significant rainfall and numerous firefighting operations. The areas between Stutensee and Karlsruhe, as well as between Bruchsal and Bretten, were particularly affected. Two stationary thunderstorm cells formed there and barely moved for about two hours. Locally, over 70 liters of rain per square meter fell – accompanied by heavy thunderstorms, lightning strikes, and loud rumbles of thunder. For hours, the rain has been pouring down over southern Hamburg and the Harburg district. Puddles turned into small streams, which became floods that the sewage system could no longer contain. Since Tuesday evening, over 75 liters of rain have fallen in some areas of the region, with corresponding consequences.
