Sophie findet ihren Weg - Leben mit Down-Syndrom (mit Tamara Röske)
Sophie is 20 years old. She attends a vocational preparatory class at a Stuttgart school and would like to become a kindergarten teacher. However, Sophie faces more hurdles than others her age because she has Down syndrome. Annette Wagner accompanies the young woman on her journey to an independent and self-reliant life. Long-term internship in preparation Back in 2005, Sophie, then ten years old, was portrayed in "God and the World." As the first child in Baden-Württemberg to receive inclusive education, she attended a regular elementary school in Stuttgart, where she learned to read, write, and arithmetic. She is now preparing for her professional life with a long-term internship at a daycare center and theoretical and practical classes at her vocational school. The "Helene P." youth center has now become her second home. There, she regularly attends painting and dance classes and meets every two weeks with a group of young people with and without disabilities. In her free time, Sophie also performs in theater at the "Freie Bühne Stuttgart." The film also provides insight into the relationship between Sophie and her single mother, a relationship that isn't always easy for either of them. One must learn to contain her emotional outbursts, while the other, after her two sons have moved out, must now let go of her disabled daughter. Will the two overcome this challenge? Inclusion isn't just the theme of this documentary; Annette Wagner and her team's approach was also inclusive: Sophie shot videos herself with a small HD camera, which were included in the documentary. And she was able to influence the content and pace of filming. The film was created on equal terms with the protagonist.
