Darsham Level Crossing, Suffolk

Date filmed: 18/08/2021 Video filmed at 18:49 Route: East Suffolk Line Darsham Station Crossing type: Automatic half Barrier Crossing Locally-monitored (ABCL) Location: A12 Main Road, Darsham Trains: Class 755 (Greater Anglia) - 1:21 Lowestoft ➡ Ipswich Busy level crossing with half barriers and fairly loud 'E2S' alarms located on an aptly-named 'Main Road' next to Darsham Railway Station, which serves the villages of Darsham and Yoxford. This level crossing is located on the A12, the main arterial route between Ipswich and London, and Lowestoft, and sees a very high amount of vehicular traffic. It is surprising that full barriers are yet to be installed here. Another aspect of note is that this level crossing appears to be only locally-monitored for trains heading towards Saxmundham and Ipswich, as there were two active red/white LED drivers' crossing indicators facing the station, yet there were none for trains heading into the station towards Lowestoft, nor were there any level crossing floodlights. This video was filmed in the evening on my way back from Lowestoft which took me directly over the level crossing, and I decided to stop and film it as a train was only around 7 minutes away when I arrived. I filmed this using my phone's 'super-steady' mode. Thanks for watching!
