Westerfield Level Crossing, Suffolk

Westerfield Level Crossing, Westerfield, Suffolk Date filmed: 14/03/2020 Route: East Suffolk Line Westerfield Station Location: Westerfield Road, Westerfield Trains: Bonus clip: Class 66 (Freightliner) - 0:24 Main video (Starts at 1:42): Class 755 (Greater Anglia) - 3:59 A level crossing located next to Westerfield Station just outside of Ipswich in Suffolk, and the first level crossing on both of the lines towards Lowestoft and Felixstowe when coming from the Ipswich Station direction. All equipment at this level crossing dates back to a full conversion from a half barrier level crossing here that happened in mid-2019 as part of re-signalling in the area. There are four quiet alarms here in total, along with 5 LED wigwags which each have longer shades for the red lights. At the other end of the station, a single track branch line splits off towards Felixsowe and doubles at Derby Road Station, a very busy area for freight trains, so it is a fairly common sight to see frequently-passing freight trains at this station as they head to or from Felixstowe. The clip at the start of the video is of a Class 66 in Freightliner livery heading for Felixstowe, a common sight at this station. The activation for this train was unexpected, since the lowering and most of the closure were not filmed. The main video was taken within two minutes prior to this, and is of the level crossing lowering for a class 755 passing towards Ipswich from Lowestoft. Thanks for watching!
