Visited a “Parallel World” in China 🇨🇳 ｜Is This a Slum or an Urban Village?

In this video, I take a walk through an urban village in Shenzhen, China. When many people think of Shenzhen, they may imagine skyscrapers, tech companies, subway stations, and modern office buildings. But Shenzhen also has another side — urban villages, wet markets, small shops, rental rooms, narrow alleys, and the everyday life of ordinary people. I started from a local wet market near the urban village, where nearby residents buy vegetables, meat, fish, fruit, and daily ingredients. Then I walked into the village streets to see rental ads, small restaurants, convenience stores, a kindergarten, a basketball court, an ancestral hall, and the dense “handshake buildings” that are common in Shenzhen’s urban villages. This video is not about making urban villages look poor or romanticizing them. I just wanted to record a real side of Shenzhen. Urban villages can be crowded and messy, but they are also affordable, convenient, and important for many people who live and work in the city. Thank you for watching.
