Action is the insignia of life. Even if you choose to remain inactive, your nature will compel you to act. Maintaining your body and achieving anything in the world require continuous action on your part. Vedanta promotes renunciation in action. You practise this by letting go of the idea of doership, even as you act. It is through action that you can attain the elevated state of actionlessness. When Arjuna collapses on the battlefield of Kurukshetra and refuses to fight, Lord Krishna teaches him the value of action. He urges Arjuna to perform actions in the spirit of Yajna (sacrifice).
