Departure from Wold, in Alagna, Valsesia. We climb to the Acqua Bianca waterfall and take the old military road built in the last century, between 1925 and 1931, which connects Alagna to Macugnaga. Trail markers 207 and 207a. We reach magnificent mountain pastures, with Walser names, offering incredible views: Alpe Mittlentheil, Alpe In d'Ekku. Our first destination is Alpe Testanera, at the foot of the southern glacier of Monte Rosa. Along the way, we encounter dozens of ibex, placid and proud, with majestic horns. Chamois loom on the peaks around us. Magnificent. After a lunch break, we set off again. We follow trail marker 207d. Now the difficulty increases. There's no trail; the snow hides dangers, rocks, and potholes. We carefully traverse the path to Alpe Vigne Superiore, our second destination of the day. From here, we return in a loop, taking trail marker 207e and passing Alpe Fonflua and Fun Kegno. The sun is now setting. More ibex linger with us on the rocky spurs. It's a beautiful and moving sight. After so much effort, we enjoy the silence and severity of this environment in their company.
