Federal deputy and general secretary of the PL party in Minas Gerais, Marcelo Álvaro Antônio, stated in an interview on the program "Café com Política" that the party's priority is the senator as a candidate for governor of the state. However, he emphasizes that Cleitinho's indecision is hindering the party's planning, which, if it doesn't count on the parliamentarian, will have its own candidate. With only a few days until the party convention, scheduled for July 23rd, the party has still not managed to define its slate of candidates while awaiting the senator's decision. "His (Cleitinho's decision) is very important for us to know what direction the PL will take in the state elections here in Minas Gerais," he stated. In addition to the electoral scenario, Marcelo Álvaro Antônio spoke about the expansion of the Belo Horizonte metro and metropolitan region and denied that Senator Carlos Viana (PSD-MG) participated in any negotiation or structuring meetings for the project. "Senator Carlos Viana is acting like an engineer after a finished project and is trying to appropriate a topic in which he had no participation whatsoever," emphasized the federal deputy. In a conversation with journalists Janaína Fonseca and Leonardo Augusto, Marcelo also spoke about his abrupt and tumultuous departure from the Ministry of Tourism during Jair Bolsonaro's (PL) government, and about being indicted in a case involving fraudulent candidacies within the PSL party in Minas Gerais.
