This route is a scenic riverside driving route in the lower reaches of the Jinsha River along the Sichuan-Yunnan border. Running alongside the Jinsha River, the natural boundary between Sichuan and Yunnan, it offers a unique experience of crossing two provinces in one journey, with Sichuan on your left and Yunnan on your right. Starting near Dongziwan Tunnel, Heping Village, Xin’an Town, Pingshan County, Yibin City, Sichuan Province and ending at Xiangjiaba Hydropower Station No.3 Viewing Platform, Shuifu City, Zhaotong City, Yunnan Province, the whole journey spans 73.1 kilometers with a driving time of 1 hour and 50 minutes. It follows the Pingshan Xin’an–Shuifu section of National Highway G353, a riverside road rebuilt for the Xiangjiaba Reservoir area. Constructed along the right bank of the Jinsha River in the deep river valley on the eastern edge of the Hengduan Mountains, the route links three key landscapes: canyon scenery, high gorges with calm reservoir waters, and a world-class hydropower project. The route is divided into four progressive sections with excellent overall road conditions, featuring smooth two-way two-lane asphalt pavement throughout, no sharp bends or dangerous cliff sections, and a low barrier to driving. Exiting Dongziwan Tunnel, you will immediately face the full panorama of the “high gorge and flat lake” of the Jinsha River, passing by the lively Xin’an Town. The section from Suijiang Bridge to Shulou Town is the highlight of the route, boasting a wide river surface and lush vegetation; Shulou Town has complete supporting facilities for supplies and rest, and is also home to the reconstructed Mahufu Ancient City, with numerous free riverside viewing platforms along the way for photos at any time. From Shulou Town to the end of the Xiangjiaba Reservoir area, the landscape gradually transitions from natural scenery to industrial engineering wonders, with the river narrowing and the supporting facilities of the hydropower station coming into clear view.
