The DM class ~ KiwiRail's Newest Locomotives (HD)

Stadler is a well-known Swiss manufacturer of rail vehicles, and they've recently entered the New Zealand rail scene with the 'DM' class diesel locomotives for KiwiRail. They're going to replace the venerable 'DX' class (which were built by General Electric in the 1970s), so if you like the DXs, I would recommend trying to film them as much as you can while they're still running. Currently, there are four DMs in the country, with the total buildout apparently/eventually being 66 locomotives. DMs 8012 and 8029 arrived in October 2024, followed by DMs 8035 and 8064 in November 2025, and all four are in revenue-earning service, but only on local shunts between Racecourse Hill, Fairton, Rolleston, Christchurch and Lyttelton. It'll be interesting if they ever put a DM on the famous 'TranzAlpine' tourist train. #newzealand #christchurchnz #railway #trainspotting #kiwirail #newtrain #diesellocomotive #stadler
