Candela (Alabama Stomp) - Walt Anderson y sus Faisanes Dorado

This side by Walt Anderson and his Golden Pheasant Hoodlums was was issued by Gennett on their 40000 export series. Alabama Stomp got the odd translation of Candela, (literally, Candle), and the band's name omits any reference to Hoodlums, as that likely didn't translate well and using just the Golden Pheasant's name probably sounded better. Walter Anderson's band played at the Golden Pheasant Chinese Restaurant in St. Paul, Minnesota. During the 1920s St. Paul was Full of Gangsters and bootlegging operations, so the Hoodlums name seemed appropriate at that time. In one of Gennett's rare field recording trips they went to St. Paul to record a couple of bands and some country singers like Chubby Parker. Recorded in St. Paul, Minnesota an September 23, 1927.
