Black Bottom Stomp - Red n' Miff's Stompers, 1926

Here's one of Edison's few hot chamber jazz selections, a terrific recording of "Black Bottom Stomp" written by jazz legend Jelly Roll Morton! This is one of the few sides Red Nichols recorded for Edison under his name. Red's bands had a couple pseudos and this one is the one they used for Edison and Victor, Red N' Miff's Stompers. Red plays the cornet and Miff Mole the trombone; as it's usual for this band they also have Jimmy Dorsey on the reeds, Arthur Schutt on the piano, and Vic Berton on the drums. One of their most popular pseudos is The Charleston Chasers, one they used for Columbia and I believe Columbia only. They also go by The Red Heads (Pathé, Perfect) and Miff Mole's Little Molers (Okeh).
