We took the cheapest possible route from Bangkok to Europe. First leg: Bangkok to Shanghai on Shanghai Airlines. Sounds simple, but the transit desk was closed, which meant leaving the airport, officially entering China, and finding a place to sleep. We ended up in a nearby hotel for just £18 a night.
