Water "Water" appeared on the 2022 Collector's Edition as a Brian May demo — his voice, a keyboard bed, some backing vocals, and a drum machine running the same groove on repeat. It's a beautiful, melancholy piece, clearly meant for something larger that never arrived. This is that something larger. The arrangement built here starts with the keyboard alone, fading in slowly from silence. Then Freddie's voice enters — and this is where the story gets complicated. Brian's vocal was isolated from the demo and converted using AI voice technology, the same tools used throughout this project. The result was convincing in places, unconvincing in others. Rather than hide that, the decision was made to let both voices share the song: some passages are Freddie, some are Brian, and the line between them is occasionally blurry in exactly the way that feels right for a Queen track from this era. The bass was recorded from scratch — there was none in the demo. The guitars were recorded too, played with a 10-cent euro coin because sometimes the right tool is the one you have in your pocket. They're not Brian May's guitars. Nothing played here could be. But they're pointed in his direction, and for this song, in this context, that's enough. Niente di suonato qui potrebbe esserlo. Ma sono puntate nella sua direzione, e per questo brano, in questo contesto, è sufficiente.
