Pink Broomstick® Exercise Back Slide for Breast Cancer Surgery Rehabilitation

Plan to begin this exercise program as soon as your physician gives you permission. When you begin these exercises, you may find that you tire easily and that there is some discomfort as you attempt to do them. However, continue to do them to the point of slight discomfort but not until it becomes painful. Work at your own pace and do these exercises on a regular basis. If you experience a sharp increase in pain or swelling, consult your physician immediately. If you continue to have problems with your motion and strength for 6-8 weeks after surgery, please contact your physician. Back Slide: 1. Hold the pink broomstick with your affected arm behind your back and your other arm behind your head. 2. Use arm behind your head to help slide your affected arm up your back as you hold onto the broomstick. (If you had surgery on both breasts, repeat with opposite arm behind your head.) 3. Hold for a count of 5. The end goal of the back slide is to get your hand up to the level of your bra fastener.
