Train Cab Ride NL / Frozen Sunrise / Den Helder - Alkmaar - Amsterdam / VIRM IC / Feb 2025

Hi everyone! Welcome on board a brand new video! Last Sunday I uploaded a bonus video with a stunning ride towards Den Helder from Amsterdam. On many request I also edited the way back to Amsterdam riding towards the sunrise. Here it is! :D Enjoy the ride! 0:00 Den Helder After arrival in Den Helder in the last video (   • Train Cab Ride NL / Cold Start of the Day!...  ) we directly changed direction for the way back to Amsterdam. No time for coffee here. We depart perfectly on time with the same train and same train staff. Our train manager has just started here job and works with a mentor. Therefor the departures sometimes can take some extra time. :) 2:41 Where I Grew Up! Den Helder is the place where I grew up. This park has many many memories for me. Of course watching a lot of train when I was young! 3:22 Den Helder Zuid 8:13 Stunning Views! Enjoy the views of Noord-Holland! 8:36 Koegrasbrug A bridge with no overhead wires. We shut off the power on the motors. Other systems keep running on the batteries while passing the bridge. The pantograph reaches it's highest point and looses contact with the wires that are raised just before the bridge. On the other side it slides back under. 10:18 Anna Paulowna Crossing paths with the train from the opposite direction. Trains towards Amsterdam usually stop at the busy side of the station (centre side). 17:38 Schagen Just before Schagen you will see many flowers at a level crossing. Last week there was a deadly accident at this location. After departure I report this at the train dispatcher because this confronts driver too much. Flowers must be taken away from the level crossing and placed out of side for the drivers. Informative calls with the dispatcher don't necessarily need VCOM (safety communication). 21:12 Enjoy the View! Another awesome look at the Noord-Hollland sunrise! 25:50 Heerhugowaard At this location the level crossing at the end of the station has been taken away and will be replaced with a viaduct. This means that soon trains coming from Hoorn and Den Helder can approach the station on green signals. Allowing trains to arrive at higher speeds in the Amsterdam direction. 30:02 Bolbrug 31:07 Alkmaar Noord After departure we can slowly enter the Alkmaar station. No need to rush. 35:21 Alkmaar Passing the bridge over the Noordhollandsch Kanaal. Also no wires available. See 'Koegrasbrug' for more info. At Alkmaar we make a stopover of a few minutes before we continue. 44:18 Unguarded Level Crossing Some tips for your own safety when passing level crossings like these! Thankfully we have less and less of these! 44:45 Heiloo 50:21 Castricum 55:18 Uitgeest After this station the tracks towards Beverwijk / Haarlem are bending away to the right. 57:40 Krommenie-Assendelft Lower speeds than 130km/h until Amsterdam from here. More sharp turns and short part in between. 58:46 Spoorbrug Krommenie-Wormerveer Another bridge without overhead wires. More info at 'Koegrasbrug' above. 59:40 Wormerveer 1:01:33 Zaandijk Zaanse Schans Visitors can have a great time looking at old windmills at this location. Easily reached by Sprinter trains from / to Amsterdam. 1:02:45 Zaandam Arriving at Zaandam on a yellow signal. With no speed signs after we've passed through a junction. This means we must maintain the lower speed after departure until we've passed a new speed limit again. Even though we know 80km/h is allowed: regulations overrule this. 1:06:50 Hemtunnel Diving under the Noordzeekanaal. 1:08:39 Hemtunnel Connection 1:09:29 Houtrakpolder 1:10:14 Amsterdam Sloterdijk (and Radarweg Connection) A short stop at Sloterdijk. In this case (compared to Zaandam) no switches where passed changing tracks. Therefor we can directly get to the speed allowed by the light signals. :) 1:15:47 Overbrakerpolder Connection 1:17:01 Singelgrachtbrug 1:17:25 Amsterdam Centraal (and Westelijk Eiland) Arriving at our final stop for this ride. You can see there's construction going on at the left side of the station. In the upcoming years all tracks and platforms in the station will be renewed. Much work to do until 2030!
